Bridge To Harmony uses hand-made electronic components to create a pair of resonant circuits, arranged to form a graphic composition on fabric.
Capacitors made from baking foil, tissue paper & beeswax are connected via bound copper nodes to resistors made from paper, graphite & copper to form two circuits; a "Hall" R-C network circuit which can be played with a copper wand, and on the reverse a "Twin-T" R-C network with a fixed frequency. The choice to create harmony or dissonance between the two oscillators is up to the player.
Bridge to Harmony asks: “What might circuits look like if electronic components had been designed around beauty and sustainability, rather than their present military and capitalist legacy?”

The Scrubland is an instrument inspired by a specific environment: a semi-forgotten area of slowly-rewilding post-industrial land in Derbyshire.
Functionally a modular synthesiser, the circuits in The Scrubland mimic the sounds, cycles and features of this environment; the act of patching them together reconfigures this well-known place into new forms.

As much a documentation of a process of understanding as it is a pre-conceived work, The Copper Modular is the fruits of an intense period of experimentation and learning afforded by Arts Council England's DYCP grant, combined with an obsession with the material beauty and conductive properties of copper.
